Personally I find the whole rebranding of the MacBook line a bit weird. The old aluminum MacBook’s branding was fine, the MacBook Pro’s had a clear advantage and superiority to them over the MacBook and the white MacBook was left out in the cold where no body knew about it. Oh wait… So the white MacBook was rightly brought back into the mix, but I still don’t see why the now 13” MacBook ‘Pro’ couldn’t have also stayed just a MacBook. In this case, Apple are just confusing people more by saying “No, that computer you bought last month is still a MacBook but this one we are selling now is a MacBook Pro. See? Just look at the writing under your screen!” Talk about confusing! All they needed to do was rebrand the white MacBook as “The MacBook Classic” or “The MacBook White” etc. and their problems would be solved. The removal of the Express-Card expansion slot was a mistake in my opinion. Sure, and SD slot is nice, but there isn’t too much harm or expense in adding both. I mean, take a look at every other laptop out there, they have both. Why can’t the MacBook Pros? Once again, Apple is just tweaking their product line up instead of bringing out something bold and ambitious.

You know how Microsoft say that one of the best thing about PCs is choice? Well hows this choice. I used their new tool to help you find the right laptop. Because obviously you can’t do it by yourself, there’s too much choice, no body could handle looking through 69 different laptops and finding the right one. If only there were four laptops that suit everyones’ need. Oh wait, the MacBook line. Let’s just ignore that for now. I wanted to see how many laptops are comparable with the MacBook Pro 17”. As you can see, only one does. And it costs $5000. Well Microsoft? What’s this about Macs being too expensive huh? You want me to pay $2000 MORE for a PC that’s slower and has less hard drive space than the MacBook Pro!? You’re joking right? So much for Microsoft’s claims. Their own website blows their entire advertising campaign out of the water, that Macs are more expensive and less value for money than a PC. Nice work.

My Macbook Pro is about a year and a half old now. So I was surprised to find this little icon in System Preferences. The ‘Energy Saver’ panel’s icon changes depending on what Mac you have. Normally, the energy saver spiral globe is reserved only for those Mac, such as the new Macbook Pros and Macbooks, which are ‘greener’ and more energy efficient. That means that my older Macbook Pro should be showing the incandescent bulb, not this one. I guess I’m just that green that my Mac decided to show it anyway! Yes, it’s a slow weekend.

New Microsoft Laptop Hunters ad. I just spat all over my screen as I laughed at this ad. Let’s begin shall we? So we have Sheila, a film maker, going to buy a computer. She is ‘open to any brand’ but that will not include Apple of course, because it’s a Microsoft ad. When she goes to the Macs, she shoots down the 15” MacBook Pro because it only has 2GB of RAM. Well, the base configuration of the HP she bought, the HP HDX 16t, also only comes with 2GB. And have you heard of upgrading? Honestly, buy some more yourself! It’s not that big of a deal! Once again, the “I need it to be fast” point is brought up again. Here is where the second problem lies. At the moment, there is no GPU accelerated video editing software available for the PC which is widely known. So the fact that the HP and the MacBook Pro have the same video card is irrelevant. This brings down the decision of power down to the CPU. The base model of the HP HDX 16t only has a 2.0Ghz processor. The MacBook Pro on the other hand has a minimum processor speed available of 2.4Ghz. Just count the numbers! The Pro’s is higher, therefore better! I also love when she lists all of the features of the HP: Firewire, webcam, USB. Nice work, you just listed the exact same features found on the MacBook Pro. You even managed to mention firewire, the interface actually created by Apple in 1995! Don’t you just sound absolutely silly right now? In all the only problem with a Mac this ad raises is the low amount of RAM. Oh no! It’s not like you can get more. No wait! Yes you can! Well I’ll be damned! But what about that slow HP processor huh? Now that’s something you can’t fix. You’re stuck with it forever, no way to upgrade. Oh, did you notice? The ad has another HP in it. That makes three ads where the subject buys an HP now. Beginning to see a trend? That’s a wrap Microsoft. |
